Bass Transcriptions

If anyone can use Uriah Heep's 'Stealin', I've been working on it, as of late... it's one of our covers, and the tab/notations I've seen leave a lot to be desired.

I'm using Guitar Pro 5, and should be able to provide a .pdf, soon.

And done... always welcome criticism to make it better, but this is pretty darn close.

Enjoy!

My pleasure, @MCF! Actually pretty fun song to play... as I noted to my other bass buddies, along about bar 84 is where I believe the bassist' mind might have been wandering a bit... I wrote the chords above the staff, and he obviously was thinking about what was for dinner, at that point in time.

Enjoy, bro!

Love that song from the classic Thain/Hensley era. We played it back in the day with Easy Livin’ and Sweet Loraine. Stealin’ was all about the groove.

Here are two transcriptions I did a while ago. Bowie - Suffragette City and Jethro Tull - My God. I took the Bowie off the original studio recording and My God I found out there on someone's bass transcription site (can't remember who's) but the original had serious problems with the way the meter/time changes/rhythm was transcribed so I revised it I think more correctly. It's certainly easier to read in the revision. It's the studio recording from Aqualung. Anyway have fun with them!

Here's another one. This is Ray Brown's bass line from Natalie Cole's version of Route 66 from her album Unforgettable. It's handwritten as I haven't gotten around to transcribing it in Finale yet. Ray Brown's playing is a clinic on how to construct a 12 bar blues walking bass line. Tasty, I think I got it pretty close. I'll post more stuff as I think of it or come across it. Enjoy!

So I like watching these two guys on youtube named Andy & Alex. They do a "first time" listeners reaction show and had the Neil Young song "Old Man" from Harvest on yesterday. I just was struck by Tim Drummond's direct, uncomplicated bass part that seemed to serve the song so well. He used just enough fills to make it interesting but not too much as to draw attention away from the vocalist(s). The rest of the backing group "The Stray Gators" that Neil Young uses on the album is great too. Put this together last night and this morning. It's kind of fun and relaxing to play along with. If you see anything you would change to improve it let me know.

Tim Drummond was so underrated. His passing a few years ago shook me pretty hard. I spent hours playing along with him when I was learning to play in the seventies. Neil’s “new” album Homegrown, the bridge between Harvest and Come A Time, features Tim on most of the tracks. A masterpiece.

Thanks for posting this!
