Bass you can't bond with

The #1 reason I couldn't get on with some basses was their weight.
If you can't strap it on for more than 45 minutes at a time, it's difficult to get really acclimated to playing it.

I have made too many mistakes, and suffered too much frustration as a result, to "bond" with this Squier Jag I am learning on, but it and I have come to a truce. I've sweated and bled, and it has had its electronics rearranged, nut raised, and its strap buttons moved around.
I am looking forward, in a couple of years, to moving up to a better instrument than my present one, but I will keep this one. Nobody else could really appreciate it!

I so wanted an Alembic : Stanley Clarke as well as JPJ.... until I played one
Not only was it everything I had imagined as to look and design but to my dismay it was tied to a special pre amp box as well as being outrageously expensive and then I played it.... felt as uncomfortable as a concrete block in my hands
When time came to buy a boutique bass, glad I chose Zon
Before purchase of my Zon I wasted an acoustic electric Bought Fender AB-1
Won’t stay in tune with itself and would cost more to fix than purchase price . I’ve always wanted to love it but could never bond with it I f I had to give a bass , up the AB-1 would be my sacrifice

For me, first it's weight. If it is too heavy for me to play comfortably on a strap for about 45 min - 1 hr, then it won't stay long. Next is ergonomics and neck shape/size. After an adjustment period, if it doesn't fit, has headstock balance issues, significant dead spots, or causes me pain to play it, it won't stay long.
No offense meant, but the following basses just didn't work for me: Rickenbackers, Warwicks, T-Birds, many (but not all) Fender Jazz and P basses.

Bolt-ons. I dont know what it is, but I just dont get comfortable on them anymore. Now lately a Dingwall Ng2-4 that came and went within 2 weeks.. EVERYBODY and their grandma loves that bass.

This is a good thing, for your wallet. It seems you've been vaccinated against G.A.S. or have some natural immunity to it. Congratulations! :-D

I could never get Modulus or Zon basses to work for me. Until I own a couple of them, I thought that infinite sustain was a good thing. Apparently it’s not for me! These days, weight is the first criterion. If the bass is at or under 8lbs, I may give it a second look.
Anything with 35" scale. 'Cause I tried (Lakland Skyline JO5), and I tried (Lakland US 5594 Classic), and I tried (Lakland Skyline Daryl Jones 5), and I tried (Peavey US Cirrus 5), and I tried (Mike Lull M5V).

I am another one that can't seem to get on board with precision basses. I've always thought I should own one, but can't seem to ever really like one when I mess around with them at the store. The body shape, the neck and nut width, the tone...it has never worked for me.
I excitedly snagged a 1974 Ric 4001 in Fireglo about 5 years ago for way too cheap in the classifieds. I had lusted after a Ric for so long and just wanted to love it.
No matter what I did, I just couldn't bond with it. Absolutely beautiful, not too heavy, killer Ric tones, but there was something wrong with the electronics/ pickups and physically it wasn't the nicest thing to play. Sold it to a guy in The Netherlands who I think still has it.

This is the one I can't bond with. Beautiful colour and body shape. I just can't love it.
Yeah, had a pristine late 70’s burgundy Rick. Traded it for an amp.

althou a great deal for the buck, I had one for three years just (sold) for some reason I couldnt bond with the Damm thing! Just felt like a beginner first act type of instrument to me.
"Not that it is!" just felt that way to me.
