Double Bass Basses seen on-screen

I just put this in my netflix queue. Cleese and bass? Too cool!

Movie review

From Time Out Film Guide
An adaptation of a Chekhov short story, set in Russia, with Cleese as a doleful double-bass player booked to perform for the forced engagement of Princess Constanza (Booth). To pass time before rehearsals, he strips off for a quick dip in a nearby river, whereupon someone steals his clothes. Meanwhile, downstream, the same fate has befallen the Princess. This leads to a very funny, innocent and tastefully filmed nudist romp in which the two of them (without peeking) try to work their way back to the huge mansion, the Princess squeezed into his double-bass case. One classic moment has Cleese running back and forth across the picturesque countryside, dropping the case and having to sprint back to pick up his double-bass.

Bonfire of the Vanities: opening sequence as Bruce Willis' drunk character is scurried this way and that - he pours himself a drink on a moving cart, picks a piece of ice out of his glass and tosses it off frame. A few seconds later we see that he had thrown the ice at "the band", who were not happy about it - and one of the band members was holding a DB.

All Of The Above HollyWood Crap Not-Withstanding :eyebrow: ....

I think the best stuff is from "The OP" .... Alan Bartram.

Fine Bassist ... The Del McCoury Band ... BlueGrass.

I guess I never personally-saw Alan's panties (boxers?) blown-up on-stage as he played his UpRight. He has class. Not Like Marilyn Monroe with Her Stuff hanging-out over the NY Steam-Grate ....

An Aside ...Did Y'All know that Marilyn was Bill Monroe's favorite daughter? That's another story.

BUT ..... When I see The Del McCoury Band Again .... I will be wary. I will also check-out the available McCoury Band Vids from U-Tube :D .... With The Most Intent ....

I Will Report Back to Rush Limpbucket and Sarah Palin if I think someone is out-of-line .... AND .... If SHE (I mean maybe HE) needs to move back to Alaska to keep a-front-porch-eye on The Roooskys :D ... That will be my recommedation.

In reference to the Sex in the City show that Don mentions above. I saw that with my wife (jeez, I wouldn't watch it alone!) and I thought it was pretty clever of the producers to have the bassist to wear a pork-pie hat. When they were breaking up the background music was "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" by Mingus.

A master of the non-sequitur.

That was Vince Giordano's orchestra I think, probably with him playing bass. He does a lot of stuff for Woody Allen. Speaking of which, he appears in a Woody Allen film, "Sweet and Low Down", playing bass, along with another guy doing bass duties. Hilarious movie with Sean Penn playing a jazz guitarist in the 30s who claims to be only 2nd to Django in ability, and passes out in fear if he even thinks Django is nearby. Also, my friend, Paul Langosch is playing with Tony Bennett at the end of "Analyze This". Great guy and bass player.
