Basses vs Shoes

Was just reading another thread about the number of basses one "needs". I made a link to fishing rods, but someone else made a comparison to woman's shoes and I got to thinking.

What's your bass to shoe ratio? Let's just stick with shoes. No boots, flip-flops or sandals. Or at least list those ratios separately.

I have four basses, one pair of everyday shoes, one pair of shiny black dress shoes and one pair of shiny brown dress shoes. So my ratio is 4:3. Yeah?

My assumption is most (male) bassists are going to have more basses than they have pairs of shoes.

Two basses, probably twenty or so pairs of shoes.

Two pairs of loafers that I wear to work, one pair of black lace up dress shoes, one pair brown, one pair of sneakers, two pairs of running shoes, one pair of golf shoes, two pairs of road cycling shoes, one pair of mountain cycling shoes, pair of work boots, pair of motorcycle boots, pair of hiking boots, and that's just what's in my closet right now.

There's only three pairs that I wear regularly, but everything else is purpose built.

Oh, no. just 2 basses, but 4 pair of soccer flats (varying degrees of quality), 2 pairs of chucks (one for performing only), 2 pair of performance dress shoes, 3 pairs of other dress shoes, cleats, and jazz shoes for theatrical productions (I do own two pair of boots, winter and cowboy, too). So according to your parameters, I'm at a 2:13 ratio

Wow - no kidding. So far, looks like I'm in the minority on this one. I guess I'm a sexist pig for assuming only women bassists would have more shoes than basses. And for that I publicly apologize.

Geeze back in my twenties I didn't even have dress shoes - only had one pair of shoes I wore everyday, at work, on stage, everything.

I don't know about other women bassists but I have 6 basses and:
one pair black shoes
one pair running shoes
two pair dressy shoes

If we count sandals I have two pair of those, but sandals don't count.

Whenever i buy anything I mentally compare it with the cost of some kind of gear.

I will ALWAYS have more shoes than basses. Shoes are cheap and need to be replaced somewhat regularly. Basses are expensive and last ages.

Currently sitting on 2 basses, with one for sale and another on the way with plans to pick up a 3rd sometime soon.

I've got maybe 7 pairs of shoes? And they've been looking kind of ragged for a while so I'm thinking it's time for a few new pairs.

I'm at a 7:36 ratio, but there's a formula....

7 basses including the AEB. All basses are different finishes.

35% of the shoes are black, 15% are some color of brown, 10% are sneakers of some sort and the remainder of shoes are a mix of color.

Of the shoes, 30% are flats, 10% are boots, and 40% are heels taller than 3" and 20% are heels shorter than 3".

Then, I color/style coordinate like this....

AEB - No shoes; only bare feet

Tobacco burst Schecter - all brown shoes, all black shoes, all sneakers, bare feet

Cherry burst Fender - All black shoes, all red shoes, only black or white sneakers, bare feet

Red Squier - All black shoes, all sneakers, all red shoes, grey heels over 3", silver sparkle sandals, bare feet

Holoflash Spector - All black, all bright colors, all sneakers, bare feet

Amber Lakland - All black shoes, brown heels over 3", most sneakers, the lime green slides, bare feet

Whale Pool Blue Dingwall - All black shoes, grey/blue plaid flats, the 4" blue peeptoe pumps, the silver sparkle sandals, bare feet

Now that I'm putting this in print, I realize that I should totally draw up a Venn diagram for it. LOL.

I fit your preconceived notion. I have 6 basses now, and 2 pair of sneakers (one pair I will be retiring very soon cuz they're falling apart), one pair of hiking/work boots, and an old pair of flip-flops that I haven't even seen since last summer. I buy shoes when my current pair no longer keep my feet dry in the rain. I buy basses when I can afford them.

I don't get how one can have 3 pairs of shoes. You need one pair for winter, fine weather, working out and formal occasions. That's 4, and that's minimum!

Anyway, I guess I have about 7-10 pairs I use during a year. Only 2 basses though :(
