Double Bass Bassics A 900 Poweramp

This power amp continues to impress me. I don't know what is inside (Ice.Pascal etc) but it has a great SOUND. The Felix/A900 brick is just stellar. I have been going thru my various pickups/mics combinations to see what I like best and they all sound SO much more with this power amp. For the past few gigs I have been using the two Yamahikos into their own channels of the Felix. With this combo into the Focus there was a lot of unfocus in the sound (comparatively).
But this amp has clarity, and depth that works so well with the HiFI Felix. All these different pickup/mic configurations just sound so much better.

It's nice when you find a piece of gear that completes the system. Regardless of how you configure it. The advantage of a separate power amp is having complete

control over the signal chain from the pickup all the way to the speaker and all the components can be swapped out, should an issue present itself. The quality of

sound is also incredible because their are few, if any, compromises in the components. Just my take. There are some great all in one systems as well.

played a nice gig with Paul Mccandless the other night. Used the Felix/A900 brick and it sounded fantastic. The A900 has serious headroom, was whisper quiet, and had a kind of charge to the way it pushed the MAS speaker that felt so quick and good. Total keeper. Thanks Malcolm.

The Gear Junkie is salivating.

(News of my retirement was premature).

Just got my A900 back from Malcolm. It had needed a repair that I am sure was my fault and not his but Malcolm was such an excellent person to work with and his amp is killing. I've been using PA speakers and a backup amp for the past few weeks. Been totally impressed with the Sarno preamp's ability to make those pretty good sounding, but man this amp thru the MAS 46 is sick. I had forgotten how damn good it sounds.
Has anyone here tried one of his preamps? Mike A said glowing things here but I was just curious if anyone else has tried one.

Which Broughton have you got? I've got HPF DI...

Yes, me too. I like it a lot and use it all the time. I don’t use the DI function or the boost but find the variable impedance very useful and, of course, the HPF. A very nice piece of kit. Here’s a not very good recent pic.

I was thinking about pulling the trigger on one because Mike posted a link to a Canadian vendor on Reverb who was was selling them for less than $300.00. That sale ended before I made up my mind. While it’s probably a great preamp, I’m so happy with the Grace Felix or EDB-2 for smaller gigs I really didn’t need it.
The powered MAS 4x5.5 just sounds incredible with either of those preamps. It’s form factor makes it easy to load in and out because of the smaller dimensions of the cabinet and lighter weight. I played through a 4x6 once and loved it, but the size of that cabinet wouldn’t fit my vehicle.
