I reached out and said, in short, “looks like you’re playing a lot of her Jaco stuff, I know I can’t play that note for note. Not sure I’m what you’re looking for.”
Trying to put it all out there, but leave the door open if they weren’t after perfection.
The reply was to the tune of “ok, thanks anyway. Jaco’s stuff is tough!”
So, guess that’s that.
From what I gleaned, they already have 2 hours of material and are shooting to start gigging in the spring. It would have been an uphill struggle even if they were in to what I play.
Pretty sure they are likely to never get out of the "garage". While these groups might have high expectations that are completely unrealistic, you have to admire their tenacity in sticking to what they want, even to their own detriment.
