Bassist who you idolized?

The bassist who I idol is definetly Flea, the bassist from RHCP. He's one of the reasons I even started to play bass. His technique was so impressive to me i just started playing more and more often to become like him that now I practice non-stop in my room. His slap bass technique was really well too. Now I'm currently learning to slap bass. It's not getting any easier for me though :p. Anyway, who do you all idolize?

I outgrew the "idolization" but was affected early on... I have the same birthday as, and grew up in the same area as...Les Claypool.... I enjoyed the fact that he didnt play the same as everyone else...his technique was off the wall and effective....the guy is amazing.....He made me see the bass in a different light...

Man, there are a few guys I idolise. Jonas Hellborg, Mark King, Jaco, Victor Wooten, Geddy Lee etc etc.

I couldn't pick a favourite, but the first guy who I really hero worshipped was Stuart Hamm. Not just for his tapping stuff, which seems to attract a lot of fans of the flash. For me, it was everything about him. His tone, his skills, his writing, his grooves and the fact that he looked so damn cool. Even today, he is still one of my absolute favourite players. I was lucky enough to see him live with Joe Satriani last year, me and my brother were in the front row right in front of him. He was amazing all night long and made me feel like a king every time he threw me a thumbs up. I was cheering for him all night long, which I'm sure he appreciated and at the end of the show he came over and shook my hand (not to mention that he gave me a pick which he used for "Flying in a blue dream"). He made me feel like a damn king, like he was playing his heart out for me. Apart from when I saw RUSH live, I don't think I've ever been so moved by music. If I had to listen to just two bassists for the rest of my life, Stuart and Geddy Lee would probably be the ones!

I never idolized any, but here's the guys who first inspired and influenced me -
Entwistle. McCartney, Chubby Jackson (Woody Herman) at first
many, many more now. See profile for the main guys.

I've outgrown all my influences now. Plus I could never play like them anyway! haha ;)
