some very valid observations. Here in NorCal/SF Bay Area you have a couple of subgenres in that yeah, there's the harmonic and intricate style you describe, think Phil Lesh et al. But then you have the East Bay funksters like Larry Graham, Rocco Prestia, and Paul Jackson. Then you have the guys who mash those up like Les Claypool.
Also agree, though that the regions are somewhat homogenizing over time, more's the pity because when I travel to the other parts of the country I really enjoy going to the local clubs and hearing what's happening there, always a pleasure to hear the "local accents"
