Bassists with Migraines

22 year migrainer here. Started at age 39. Carry Imitrex injection kits all the time.
100 times a year on average. Live in New England where weather is the biggest trigger,(Barometric pressure change). Dry stable weather is the best environment, US South West.
Tropical storm Arthur did me in really bad last week. It's a living hell.
Just went to Neurologist last week asking about Botox & Cefaly device.

I've found that achieving a chiropractic "release" (in my neck) will turn mine off like a switch. I have learned how to do this myself. Mine can be triggered by sinus issues, neck/back tension, or very low blood sugar. I've also learned to see the trigger before it gets bad and take action. Excedrin Migrane formula works well, along with caffinated drink, at the 1st sign. Sinusbuster also works well when they are sinus triggered. I've been down the road, puking, bright light, loud sounds, dark rooms.... the whole deal. Even wound up in the ER because they were so bad several times. I've learned my triggers and how to act upon them. That strategy has served me well. Imitrex is a godsend by the way.

Please explain that chiropractic release. Imitrex is starting to work less than it used to for me. Excedrin migraine works well or a caffeine pill stacked with some aleve(naproxen sodium). Also alka-seltzer cough and cold if it seems more sinus triggered but can tear your stomach up. Also a couple tramadol will take the edge off. Sometimes a brisk walk can help too. The damn daily auras seem to stick around no matter what I throw at them though, but at least I can fight the eye-stabbers.

Have you ever been to a chiropractor and gotten your neck cracked/adjusted ? That's what I'm talking about. I learned how to do it myself. Maybe using a chiropractor is something you should look into. It could very well be that a mis-alignment is kicking off your symptoms, and it just goes downhill from there. YMMV

I have had two rounds of botox, the second round was actually two rounds in one. Did absolutely nothing for me. I would like to get the occipital nerve blocker shots instead but Neuro kind of blew me off when I asked for them, which was strange after he was all hot to try the botox on me. I will ask about the Cefaly device my next visit and for the nerve blocker shots again. Most of the Southwest seems to have big sweeps in barometric pressure so I am leery of that area outside Southern California and Phoenix AZ. Phoenix is the oddity and high on the list of stable pressure though. Southern California, then Florida is the best after Hawaii for most stable barometric pressure states.

No I have never been, but have been wanting to try it out, so now I definitely will.

So you are saying move to Washington or Colorado or Canada lol.
Canada, unfortunately not (yet). Seriously, I know there are people who can get an exemption and use marijuana legally for chemo effects (severe nausea). You might be eligible for this. I know it was the only thing that worked for the horrendous hangovers (alcohol poisoning) I used to have to suffer through on a regular basis.
