Fender rumble overdrive channel mod

At home, I use my fender rumble 500 combo quite a bit. It's good for quick grab and go jams as well. The one thing that annoys me a bit is that when the overdrive is kicked on there's quite a bit of a high mid low treble boost that sounds harsher than the clean tone. Has anybody ever thought about installing a tone control on that circuit to tame the harshness?. I'm wondering if you could just add a volume pot with a capacitor onto the output volume pot of the channel to accomplish this?

That's by design, it's common in voiced overdrive circuits.

I don't think your proposed solution would be anywhere near successful.

If the OD circuit is pre Effects Loop, just toss a basic graphic EQ pedal in there that you can switch on when you engage the drive channel.

You could also buy nearly any bass OD pedal over $50 and have far superior results IMO.

IF you aren't looking for Fender's particular flavor. There's also some compression algorithms that are part of this Fender O/D model.

I think the onboard drive is quite useful; I almost use it always on. Sounds really great with a ray, too, and also sounds nice with bright on when the horn is off.

But sure, if you want a different drive flavor, use a pedal. I must have 20+ drive pedals...

I just played through friends 800 head and the drive doesn't sound quite as bright through the same cab. It's actually a pretty good sound. And yea, I have many drives to choose from my collection but, it's nice to just grab and go with one box sometimes.
