Bassits that use walking bass lines.

I'm thinking the folks who wrote the books all did this already.

The easy way isn't always the best way. First it develops your ear; second, learning to write music helps your reading; third you actually have to think about what is going on when you transcribe yourself; and last, you aren't limited to only learning the lines someone else thought were good enough to transcribe.

Graham Maby (Joe Jackson band) and Bruce Thomas (Elvis Costello and the Attractions) neither are "jazz" per se but both are super tasty to decipher for more contemporary walking bass if you get bored.

Reid's book, in particular, is just fantastic. I still practice exercises from it almost every day.

Lots of good resources, but if you are talking about traditional jazz, I would get a copy of the Real Book and transcribe lines yourself. IMHO, you'll get a lot more out of it than just reading notes in a tutorial.

I'm not sure what you are saying here. The Real Book will only give the chords, you still have to get the recordings and transcribe the actual bass lines.

Reid is a great teacher. I had a wonderful experience at a jazz camp years ago where he taught. Got to learn from him and listen to him for a whole week. He has great tips not just about what notes to play but about how to be a musician in general. Loved learning from him.
