What Bassline really tunred me on to playing the bass? Let see there is quite abit. but mostly becuase of duck dunn. and his bass lines.

i find it hard to believe that i am the first person to say "rappers delight" by sugarhill gang (see also: chic - "good times")...i also remember being quite fascinated with the pink panther theme by henry mancini and "car wash" by rose royce, among numerous others...i would even listen to the ubiquitous (at the time anyway) "feels so good" by chuck mangione just for the funky popping in the middle

I started on electric bass because my friends wanted to play guitar and drum. Someone had to do it so I volunteered. Now, twenty-some-odd-years later I am the only one who stuck with it.
I was a metal head back then (still am, a little) so it was Ozzy's Blizzard of Oz, Iron Maiden, etc. Later I hooked up with some guys that could really play (the solo on Crazy Train and the drum part on YYZ) and all we ever played was Black Sabbath and Rush. I still know almost every Sabbath song there is and my Rush chops are still pretty up, too. So Geezer Butler and Geddy Lee were big influences for me. Then we got into fusion jazz. I was (still am, some) into Jaco, Patitucci, Jeff Berlin, Jimmy Johnson, Stanley Clarke. This was in 1988 or so.
About five years later I discovered James Jamerson. He is a huge influence on my playing these days.
About five years after that I got serious on upright so there is a whole list of greats there (Garrison, Brown, Chambers, etc) plus the classical (Meyer, Rabbath, Karr, etc.)
And I still love the outlaw days from when I was a wee little kid (Waylon, Willie, Cash, Colter, et. al.).
What a long, strange trip it's been.

What Album is that song on? I've never herd it and I have all of the ATD-I albums. I don't have any of the eps though, is it on one of those?
Hysteria-Muse was a HUGE factor in me wanting too get a bass. I thought Chris Wolstenhome was the greatest bass player ever.
New Album comes out a week from today!

All great songs lots of my favs. Can't say that any one song made me want to play the bass. It was more so the groove from it. The feel it in your chest. Yah man!! Sure do rock out to Aerosmith's Sweet Emotion everytime it comes on.

I'm curious about the songs a lot of people are listing in this thread. They sound like music that you learn about and get into after you become a bassist. Are these tunes that you were listening to before you picked up a bass?
