BassMute still in production?

The always used to be on Bass Direct in the UK, but I've not seen them @in stock@ for a very long time.

I'd love to put one of my MIA Fender American Performer P, I've actually just emailed the guy so i'll let you know if when/if i hear back.

Bass direct offer these:

Bass Mutes - Bass Direct

But "The Bass Mute" seems like a much better solution. There is a note on their website that since Scott's Bass Lessons posted a video about it he's been hit with hundreds of requests where normally he'd be keeping only around 6 in stock.

I'm still using a bit of foam from when i bought some EMG GZR pickups (which my son now refers to as Reggae sponge!!

Yeah, I've gotten really quick with a piece of high density foam, but being able to just flick a switch and have muting would be great on the workhorse instrument at least. None of those other options even come close, IMO

I cracked one of the plastic pieces that hold the foam on one of my Bass Mutes. Any thoughts on fixing? The other one works great, nothing wrong with the product, I just over tightened and with the crack it won't hold the set screw.

I don't own one, unfortunately. But typically with cracked plastic I go with Gorilla Glue. If it's possible to remove the piece and clamp it down while the glue cures, that'd probably help.

I've not heard anything back from the guy, he may well be flooded by lots of questions still but I'm kinda thinking that this is a no go.

Shame, it's an excellent but if kit, would be good if someone like Hipshot got the rights to it and could produce them.

I have a Nino Mute that I use on my electric upright for certain songs. It works and helps with it getting a wee bit closer to the real thing. Different positions can get whole different feel/sound than just an electric fretless vibe. I have not tried the Nordy Mute yet. I have one of those Frump things but that did not work at all for me. The idea of how it works is fine but doesn't feel consistent string to string. Maybe a different kinda material, foam lining it. And now that I'm talking about it I'll pull it out and see if I could possibly improve on it.

And that's the same design as the Frump thing. Maybe not shaped right or whatever the muting material is is not the best for the application. With all the very cool bass tech going on lately I'm surprised that something like this isn't perfected. There certainly is a market. The Bass Mute is a wonderful product. I still have one installed and working properly for many years. I must fix this second one. And if ever available again I would purchase at least 6 more.
