Basswood for blocks?

  1. I know of a Canadian maker who has used basswood for blocks on a bass but read elsewhere that it is discouraged. Any thoughts?

Lightweight, relatively strong, very stable and easy to work. Where's the problem?

  3. Easy to get at Woodcraft. Perfect. Thanks.

  4. I dont know its a pretty damn soft wood, durability might be a little bit of a problem.

Blocks are usually made of spruce, willow or poplar. Are those much harder? Have you made many basses?

Mine are cedar. They seem fine.
