Double Bass Basswood for blocks?

I know of a Canadian maker who has used basswood for blocks on a bass but read elsewhere that it is discouraged. Any thoughts?

Lightweight, relatively strong, very stable and easy to work. Where's the problem?

I dont know its a pretty damn soft wood, durability might be a little bit of a problem.

Blocks are usually made of spruce, willow or poplar. Are those much harder? Have you made many basses?

Mine are cedar. They seem fine.
