Double Bass battery drain of Ehrlund preamp?

I just got the Ehrlund pickup and preamp. I know I could learn by experimenting, but does the battery in the preamp drain as fast as onboard guitar pramp batteries? Do I need to disconnect it every time I quit playing? I've looked through the previous Ehrlund threads and haven't seen this mentioned.

Yes, you have to disconnect the cables when not using it. I never wanted to know how fast it would drain a battery though...

This is the main thing stopping me from buying the Ehrlund. The stupid battery. If they had a phantom power option, I'd be ready to jump...

Others have reported several months of battery time with heavy use.
IMHO batteries are more consistent and controllable in your signal chain than phantom... but with that said, it sure is convenient.

I thought of modifying mine so it would run on power supplied by my pedalboard, I think that would be fairly easy to do. Actually, I never attempted to do it as this preamp is mostly just collecting dust these days... Maybe someday?

IMHO batteries are more consistent and controllable in your signal chain than phantom... but with that said, it sure is convenient.

99% of the time I run my pre-amp through my Acoustic Image because I use it as a stage monitor and I also find the effects (especially the high pass filter) worth having. So I'm mostly free of worrying about batteries because the AI provides limitless, hassle-free phantom power.

On the few gigs where I don't have my amp, I have a battery ready for my pre-amp, because, yes, depending upon the house's phantom can be dicey.

The Ehrland pre-amp isn't cheap. It should include a phantom option.

I'm still on the fence.

Are you not using the mic anymore, or using it with another pre?

I like it better with the Headway EDB1 actually. Sounds just as good, better tone shaping, feedback control, and the option of blending another PU or mic with it.

Ehrlund claim 600 hrs per batt. That's a lot of gigs. The output jack activates the 'on' switch so keep it unplugged when not in use.
