Battery Heats up...

hello everyone...

.. finally got my XB125 rewired and working great. problem
is why my 9V battery heats up fast? that was the same problem
why i got a friend to fix it for me (but was not able to).

checked all possible problems (shorted wires, wrong connection, etc.)
but can't find any.. please help if someone has anything :-(

Funny you mention that your battery heats up fast.* I had the same problem and it was because there was a heavy drop of solder that shorted out my preamp card.* Carefully I removed the solder and saved the preamp card and its components.* After looking at the problem and realizing what had happened I was almost certain my preamp card was pulling too much current.* Possibly your battery's lead could be shorted to ground.* I'd start from the battery and check those than check your components.* By not able to look at your wiring compared to the diagrams it's going to be hard fro me to tell you how to fix it.

you have a short somewhere. could be incorrect wiring, bad soldering, or even something shorting when you close the control cover

Yep, you have a short somewhere. Sort is ASAP before you screw things up for good.

... maybe i should recheck it then. how bout if my
Pup's internal preamp has problems, wouldn't be that a
factor too??

when i got my friend to check it, he told me that the
internal preamps got fried, i don't know how he diagnosed
it.. can the Pups be opened?

also.. if I turn up the Tone control, there's humming or
more of buzzzzzing sound (like when you hold a jack tip
plugged into an amp).. sometimes it does, sometimes it
doesn't

also.. i discovered, regardless there is a battery installed, it
still plays. no difference of gain volume dropping. to my
understanding of an Active Pup, it shouldn't operate w/o
battery.. or I may be wrong

Exactly what pickups and electronics are in the bass? Chances are the pups are passive not acitve and most guys don't say tone control when speaking of a preamp - they refer to the frequency band (bass/whatever).

If properly wired and functioning there's no reason for the battery to identifiably change temp to my knowledge but if it is getting warm then the battery shouldn't last any time at all since it's likely shorting.

A true active PU won't work if there's no battery installed. It's got an internal preamp that needs power to function.

It sounds like you've got passive PUs (are they EMG-HZ's? -- those are passive), and an active tone circuit with a short that's causing the battery to heat up.

it's the stock Pup & electronics from washburn itself.. XB125 with 1tone, 1vol and 3way switch version.. when we got it from the store here in my country, I noticed odd things like like hum/buzz problems, sometimes there sometimes not.. but consistently battery heating up fast

that's what i'm thinking.. but it's the orig "active soapbar pup" from Washburn. bridge having 1redwire, white & bare, the neck having black, white & bare..

I remember it having hot solid sound when it was new but after years noticing the battery heating up everytime, we opt not to put batteries, but the sound wasn't the same as hot as before, we have to turn up amp gain to almost full..

.. i'm thinking of trying to rewire it to 1tone, 2vol (neck/bridge), doing away with the selector switch, hoping it would work better..

Without sounding redundant if your Pups work than your Pups are passive and you have a preamp that requires a battery to adjust your tone. Where are you located if you are near California I might be able to help you. I'm in Oklahoma City right now.
