BAttery Powered Amp

+1 for the little roland cube. it aint loud but its ok with accoustics and a cajon or bongos and nice to have a bit of bass on the beach. the effects and rhythm box are a bit cheesy but better than nothing.

+1 from me too

Me on an EAB with the Roland, 3 acoustic guitars (not amplified), a cajon, and various (unamplified) vocals on my buddy's back deck was perfecto. (did not use the FX or rhythm, but I have used the rhythm for practice.)

I played bass on the sideline for marching band one year. I ran two peavey 115 combos stacked off this deal my band directed got. It was a plastic box with a car battery inside and had regular outlets. Wasn't anything homemade. Used it everyday m-f for a few months and never had issues. it weighed at least 30 lbs though. I've seen the small pjb combo that runs off a motorcycle battery in some videos online but they always sound dirty and distorted. No one sells them here but if I could try one out and was happy with it I might go that route

For "acoustic" shows I like fretless bass. Acoustic bass can't hang with acoustic guitars without an amp. With an amp or on a loud stage feedback can be an issue. I think fretless works really well with acoustic guitars because its a little less percussive than fretted but a little more of a melodic instrument in a way.
