BBE Sonic Maximizer Yeh or Neh?

I have both the Sonic Maximizer 882i (rack) and Aphex Big Bottom Bass Xciter (pedal).

I used them both at one point or another, but eventually retired them.

As my ear got better, I found the Aphex made my bass sound muddy, especially the lower notes and the SM made the bass sound weird and sparkly and when I bypassed it I could still here it faintly processing my signal in the background.
