BBE Sonic Maximizer?

im currently thinking of getting one, but i dont know which one? :help:

should i get the BBE 882i or the BBE 482i? :confused:
is there a big difference on the two?

also, can the sonic maximizer act as a good DI? or would the RBI be better going after the Sonic Maximizer?
like a signal chain like this? (SansAmp RBI --> Sonic Maximizer --> P/A and my Genz Benz power amp)

the rest of my rig includes, Sansamp Rbi, Genz Benz Neo Pak 3.5.

Thanks in advance :hyper:

Morning. If i remember correctly, one of the major differences between the two is higher headroom. I play a warwick and a Lakland and have never had an issue with my 482i. I think that the 882i might have XLR inputs as well. I think that you will be just fine with the 482i.
As for a DI, i would think that you would need the Sansamp or somthing else too. There is not a gain on the BBE so i am sure you could not do that. It is, more or less, an eq. If you want to go all in one, you could look at their B-Max preamps. Those have a maxmizer built in, as well as they are a preamp, so you could use that as your DI.

Hope this helps.

yeah that did help, but i got another question,
what would be better?

SansAmp RBI --> BBE 482i --> power amp/pa
OR
BBE 482i --> SansAmp RBI --> power amp/pa

if i use the second setup, would my Sansamp ruin or change the 'equal/nice frequencies' of the BBE 482i?

The "sound better box". Used to have the cheapo rack one. 381 I believe. Worked pretty well. Decided it was way to modern sounding. Didn't fit my band at the time. Sold it on ebay for like $50. I bet they're still that cheap.

Just a suggestion, be sure you try it in the specific application you intend to use it in before buying it... to be sure it does what you want it to do and to be sure it works in your signal chain the way you expect.

If you insert it in the loop and use the DI in the NeoPak you will have to operate in the post eq position, which is not desireable to many sound guys, a valid complaint where the bass player uses a lot of eq for on stage cabinets that may hurt the sound of the bass in the PA, where the PA low frequency response is much more substantial than the player's rig on stage.
