people seem to be afraid to say it’s based off of a tube screamer. Eventide is using the same language for their new “weedwacker” algorithm.

Probably a trademark thing. Ibanez might not allow other companies to use the tube screamer name in their marketing. Isn't most music gear just copies of other designs? It's not any different from most bass manufacturers that advertise a p or j style bass rather than saying it's a precision bass or jazz bass.

I do really like my green screamer...one of the few pedals I have, in fact. But, and I know it's a minor point, the graphics on this pedal are just so silly...the originals are far better looking. To whit -

I have the older version and I've used it for bass. I think it sounds pretty great. Kinda sounds like Lou Barlow's tone on this song -
