I've been stalking the threads here for a while and have learned a lot, so thanks.
I play in two bands, one of which is a guitar-heavy stoner/doom band. The other, where I'm the main composer, is also doom with elements of psychedelia. The sound here emphasises the bass more - it started as a bass and drums jam then I kept adding band members. I play an Ibanez 5-string with Phat bass boost, mainly because it was the only reasonably priced lefty bass I could find on short notice in India, where I live. I recently ordered a SanSamp BDDI Programmable and it has made a huge difference to my sound. It's like having an amp on the floor. I have a nice chunky tone tht actually cuts through the heavy assault generated by the two guitarists in the stoner/doom band, and both a cleaner and a more fuzzy variant of the same for my own project.
Now I want to branch out a bit. I want to be able to throw chorus, reverb, delay, and especially some octave effects onto my bass for the more kraut/psychedelic passages I am working on.
Thing is, as I may have alluded to above, equipment isn't easy to get here. Today, I visited 4 different music stores to find such a simple thing as a bass chorus pedal, to no avail. So I was wondering if it would make sense to get a multi-effects pedal to save myself some time and money. Something like the Zoom B2.1u. It would be a little redundant because it does what the SansAmp does as well, but it would let me access the other effects I want without spending years building up my rig with expensive international orders.
Actually I will probably also acquire various individual pedals over the years, but in the meantime would something like the Zoom make sense as a stop-gap, given the low level of access to great gear out here?
