BDDI Question

This might be more appropriate for the wider forum, but thought I'd check here first...

I just got a BDDI and while in general it is great, with my bass at least it makes a fairly unmusical clicking sound unless the treble is basically turned to zero and the presence is pretty far down too...which has other effects on the sound. I generally love the tone but this makes it hard to use for anything where I want to have some top end. It's there with pick or fingers, though worse with the former. I have a '73 P Bass with chromes on it. Any thoughts JMJ or others? Am I doing something wrong? If needed I can record it to show people what I'm talking about.

How are you powering it? I used one of those for years and years and never experienced anything like you are describing either.

I totally just remembered this: when I first got my BDDI I powered it off of phantom power from the mixer it was running into. It sounded crappy, really trebly and clackety. I wasn't sure if it was defective or what. Then I realized that the LED was really faint, and that made me question what the heck was going on. I then tried powering it with a battery and with a 9v AC adapter - bam, problem solved! The phantom power either wasn't putting out the right voltage or enough current, not sure which.

I'm not guaranteeing this is your problem, but it's worth ruling out. I'd advise making sure that your power supply has the right current capability. The BDDI only needs 100mA, so it's not hard to power, but best to be sure. If that's not the issue, does it make a difference if you power it with a 9v battery?
