Be an informed skeptic

people who bang on about being skeptics seem to be a breeding ground for conspiracy theories, ranging from unlikely to competely bonkers.

it's a bit like someone telling you they're charming. if it's true, they won't need to say it.

I could tell you about some conspiracy theories, as I find them highly fascinating, ranging from ridiculous to possible.
I could also tell you theyre just theories and while I dont entertain them as truths, there could be something to some of them.
I dont believe that things are always on the up and up the way we're lead to believe they are, and Id say that makes me a skeptic.

Who says that? All I ever hear is how this country, and the world with it, are going to Hell in a hand basket. Maybe its regional or demographical differences...

Exactly, because thats what the evil "they" want people to believe. Fear is the most powerful tool for control, and the people are lead to believe that they better buy the finest of handbaskets.
The up and up is that everything will be just fine. They know this, but they dont want us to know this.

Yeah, when us optimists start wearing uniforms the pessimists get really riled up! Likely because theyre so bright and cheery...

I'm not going to blame any portable device on that, I misspelled "uninformed" all by myself. :p

To be perfectly clear, I like uniformed optimists just fine, even in large groups. It's those danged uninformed optimists that keep bumbling about.:eyebrow:

As a rule, I don't believe anything I see on TV or read in newspapers or books without investigating it myself. Peer-reviewed journals...slightly more trustworthy.

Sometimes my own independent investigation is less diligent than other times. Mostly though, I just don't care enough about what is said to bother.

Most people call me a pessimist. I am not, but neither am I an optimist. I think of myself as a realist.
