Beck - Funky Intro at West 54th

I dont know if you've seen this on youtube () ...Im really diggin this tune and think I'm gonna try and transcribe it for a small 5 piece house band I'm in . Just curious as to who found the tune and how it came about that you guys played it. Thanks

I think it was an Ennio Morricone theme. We found it in Japan on some crazy comp. Glad you dig it.

First off Ennio rules. Second I swear I have heard that "are you ready?" in a Tom Waits song....its on Real Gone.

I can clear this up! It's not Morricone, but English library music composer Keith Mansfield with 'Funky Fanfare'.

All of these compilations are wicked and worth a listen. All these guys like Keith and Alan Hawkshaw were just sitting in studios creating shedloads of awesome tunes, some of which were used (think Grandstand, Wimbledon, the old Grange Hill theme, Countdown.. I could go on, but the Americans will have lost me!) and many of which weren't. Glad they got a second airing on these comps

Schecter Hellcat 4-string bass, uber-custom. It's the sister to the 8-string.

I downloaded a DVD copy of that whole session...that bass has an amazing growl to it, not to mention an absolutely dope slap tone. And the color scheme...awesome!!!

i'm with you on that era of Bowie... 'station to station', 'Low', and 'Heroes' are three of my favourite records EVER... 'lodger' has some moments, but sonically it doesn't stand up for me.

great music. what a great band in that era, too. dennis davis and george murray were a killing rhythm section.
