Beginner guidance.

Hi, I'm going to try and learn to play bass guitar, mainly for theory and jazz purposes. I'm already pretty proficient on double bass when it comes to orchestral technique if I do say so myself, but I know I'm entering a whole new realm with the bass guitar.

I'm mainly looking for general advice from anyone on here, but especially those who started on the string bass before moving to bg.

Questions:
-What's the difference between the standard left-hand positioning on the db vs. bg?
-Are there any good method/etude books for the instrument, specifically for a 5-stringed bg?

And any general tips and advice you guys have would help tremendously.

Most of what you are asking about - how to hold the electric bass, how to fret the strings, how to get sound, and how to mute some of the sound can be found in the first pages of Bass Guitar For Dummies.
