Double Bass beginner jazz bass songs

i've been playing(well technically reading) jazz for a few months now on guitar and was wanting to learn some on bass as well, to get a more rounded view of the genre. i've got the real book volume 2 but at the moment i don't really know what's good to learn at this stage. there's some simple basslines in there but most of them are for modal jazz tunes which i'm certain i wont be able to do just now. any suggestions for some good beginner songs. i've been playing for a few years so i'm alright with stuff that's a little more technically demanding, it's just the theory i'm not so hot at

I just started one of my new-ish bass students on some jazz standards a few weeks ago. So far, we've looked at
So What
Footprints
Blue Bossa
Equinox

If you aren't 'good' at theory, I see no reason for you to stay that way. Ask lots of questions on here. Maybe some of us can help out.

Transcribing helped me a lot. Try to play what you hear, as an exercise.
