Double Bass Beginner needing ADVICE!

Hi there,

I have been playing upright for a couple of months now and has been completely self taught a part from one or two pieces of advice I have picked up from my peers.

What I would like to ask is, what should I be looking out for in both my left and right hand technique? Are there any kind of exercises you would recommend to help me progress my technique further.

Would be great if anyone could offer any kind of advice.

Injury is an issue but the other issue is a good teacher will lay out a method with specific technique for you to learn so that you will develop proper skill. I have been playing the DB for two years, started out trying to teach myself then found a teacher, working on Simandl exercises, jazz transcriptions etc. If you want to be proficient on the DB and play jazz get a teacher, you will see results much quicker.

Get a teacher. String bass isn't really an instrument that can be self taught. If you play with improper technique, there's a very good chance you'll end up hurting yourself badly.
