Behold, The Hideous Claw!

OK, we've sat through a gargantuan thread about "what's coming," with few details. Now we're on page eight of the "presenting..." thread, and we still don't know who made it, and why multiple people worked on it. Finished by Dolan? Looks "really Alembic-y?" Fine, but how about some actual info. Why was it worked on by different people? Why is there no one's name on the headstock? Why didn't Alembic (or whoever did the fine Alembic-alike job) finish it? Etc. This history and information might be as interesting as the bass, if it only were provided.

Sorry about the potentially negative-sounding nature of this post, but I'd genuinely interested in some solid information, and I'm also genuinely losing patience with the "tease" nature of all the discussion. :hmm:

So how about it, Jean? :)

Congratulations Jean, you've had 2 new basses in a couple months... just be sure to not neglectic any of them! :) Also, props to your fan who took the time to make this, he is most definately not so human... and I'm still trying to figure out when the "Hideous" starts to kick in...

Its a really really complicated story. I know the reason why he can't. There is a really good reason behind why he can't say. I would just enjoy the bass and let some things be unanswered.

We love complicated stories here!!! I also doubt that he CAN'T (in a legal sense) say anything, but that he (or someone else) PREFER that he not say anything.

I can't imagine anybody NOT wanting to take credit for that thing!! Unless, of course, it was an Alembic builder working off the clock. :D :D

Sorry, if you feel that way, but the guy who gave it to me asked me not to say. He sacrificed what should of been his own personal instrument and gave it to me - the least I can do is respect his wishes.

I'd love to give credit to every individual that worked on this bass. Some who I have become good friends with and some of which I never met yet donated their personal time. I'd love to tell you guys some of the crazy stories and drama that went along with it being made - and if you meet me I can tell you but I'm not going to print it on a public forum.

Why did many people work on it? Let's just say the "best" person for each role of building did that particular job. Why doesn't it have a logo? Because it's not an official instrument, it wasn't built on company time (it was worked on night and only once every couple of months), many of the people that usually are involved were not, and no money changed hands. Also, many of the features on this bass are not even offered and the bass was made from below standard materials... most of the wood (including the laminates) were scraps headed to the dumpster - except the Redwood Burl (the top/back) purchased from a burl place in El Cerrito for $60. I can say this: Many people on talkbass (and even in this thread) own basses made by some of the hands that made this bass.

If you can't figure it out from the instrument itself and the MANY clues I provided, I really don't know what to tell you. :hmm:

Well, that I can understand, and respect. Thanks for that explanation. It clears things up a bit, or at least explains the cloudiness. Enjoy it in health! :)
