Behold, The Hideous Claw!

That's the first fanned bass I've seen that doesn't look- no offense, fanned players- like the pickups were an afterthought(go ahead & flame as needed- it's just another opinion). I mean, the whole thing looks so much more 'integrated' to me. And it's a GIFT?!? Life is good, eh, Jean?

I'm going to have to say that you musn't have seen too many fanned fret basses, because the pickup placement of the Hideous claw is very similar to what is done on Dingwall basses, the Joust 11 String and the JP fanned 6. I'm not "flaming" you, but I'm just saying that I don't understand the difference.

"body is based off an existing body style"

"the slap tone of one of the legends from the 70's" = Stanley Clarke

The knobs and switches are certainly Alembic, so maybe the electronics are also, and maybe the bass... :eyebrow:

... also keep in mind that Michael Dolan is (i) a very-well regarded luthier, (ii) has his shop in Novato (or closeby, I forget which town exactly), and (iii) used to work at Alembic.

Regardless... very impressive demonstration of guitar-building technology and art. Which is a complciated way of saying... cool bass!
