Behringer Amps/Cabs, Tonality and Quality

The old "amp caught fire" thing again. I'm sure alot of us here at TB have seen amps catch fire. In the 20 years I have been playing and around musicians, I have seen even the best catch fire. No offense, but your first post in this thread should more than discredit your opinion on these heads.

I also see alot of posts about how Behringer heads are crap, but I see more posts from *ACTUAL OWNERS* that swear by them. One guy here gigs with his and has done so for over a year. My suggestion as always is to try it out for yourself. If you like the "noise" that comes out of the speakers, plop down the 200 bucks and spend the rest of your money on some higher end cabs.

I never even thought of that. I was originally going to build my own cabinet for the speaker. But if I could find a good unloaded one for a great price then I'd definately go that route.

I've been running a Behringer BX3000T head (through an Eden 2x12 cab) for close to a year now with no real problems. Gigged plenty with it as well. Tone wise it's just *ok* (I think) but I needed a new head fast and cheap. Only thing I don't like is that it clips pretty early....

Course I'm gonna go to a power/pre setup now that I have a better job, but I'll keep the Behringer as backup. I'd say it was worth the $200 I spent on it.

My first post is discredited because i said why i dont think they are reliable? what?

The behringer is the only amp ive seen to go up in smoke like that, and yes, its put me off them, along with the fact i dont like how they sound, if you cant deal with people showing an opinion then you probably should bother posting on the internet, so stand by what you think, and ill stand by what i think, different stroke n' all you know

*starts humming different strokes theme*

That was your first post...

How does this help someone make a decision? It's just a flame. If you would do a search you would find that BX3000T users like the tonality not to mention the quality.

Everyones opinion is of course welcome. But at least back up your statements with something other than conjecture. And the fact you hinted at Behringer's morality reveals you have a distaste for the company more so than it's products. Alot of bassists come to this forum in search of relevant information. If I wanted to buy a certain piece of gear, someone bashing the product does not help especially from someone who doesn't own that gear. I don't ask someone that drives a Ford what he thinks about Dodge. :)

I know what i said about the morality, but that doesnt bother me overly much anymore ( ive got 3 Behringer XM1800S mics and a UB1202 mixer that all do what they are meant to, its just the amps i dont like :p )

And as your hinting at it being someone far fetched and a spreaded story, its the only other person that i know that plays bass in the town that i live in, spose its a good thing it went, a waste of such a nice sound that can be had from her aria :bassist:

If she has an SWB upright, then I wouldn't get it near a Behringer, Peavey, and many others. If its a STB (played one of the Jazz models.. it was quite nice) or TAB (hollow body) it would sound fine. My brother's bassist comes over from time to time and he plugs his MTD535 (blue coral.. it's beautiful) in and twists a few knobs and never complains. Maybe he jsut feels sorry for me.. :P

You should. A smart automobile/amp shopper would have looked at all the brands that fit his needs and made a decision. When my friends get new autos, I ask them why they didn't get the competition.

In the same vein, If your friend bought product X and it ignited, would you then by the same thing? Probably not. Why ridicule someone else for making the same decision, and then tell them the story isn't relevant because it wasn't their amp? I think all anecdotal evidence is useful. Have a nice day.

The 300-Watt rating is for 4 Ohms. I e-mailed Behringer and asked about the rating at 8 Ohms. Their reply was 170 Watts. That's 2.4 dB below 300 Watts, which may perhaps be a drop in the bucket depending on your needs. Also, at 8 Ohms, there is no question that the amp will run cooler.

Just a note, not to say anything good or bad about Behringer, but the GK Backline 600 is a 300-Watt head selling for just $100 more than the Behringer. This is within the range where you should at least listen to both brands before whipping out the plastic. Someone from GK posted to this group, that the BL 600 uses the same power amp circuit as the 400 RB. Also, you might like the fact that the BL 600 only weighs 15 pounds.

I am only saying this because I am considering purchase of a BL 600 right now -- the weight of the Behringer bass head takes it out of consideration for me.

You might find that you get the sound you want with an outboard pre feeding the power amp of the BX3000T. Unless you go all the way to tubes, audible differences among power amps are a lot less than among preamps.

I've seen two amps go up in smoke, in person, in my life thus far.

One was an Ampeg SVT4 and the other was a Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier.

One is a top-of-the-line bass amp and the other is a top-of-the-line guitar amp.

Would I still buy either one of them?

If I had the money I would in a heartbeat.

I've read and heard at least one bad story about tons of different amps, cabs, and instruments out there. My guitarist fried a Line 6 Flextone III during a battle of the bands. The wall had surged and killed it. Not everything that happens to gear is the gear's fault.
