Behringer Bass Synth or Soundblox Pro Bass Envelope Filter?

Hi,

i want to make some dubstep sounds with my bass. So in youtube I see there is this Soundblox Pro Bass Envelopse Filter, which seems to be powerful but expensive. On the other hand I've found this really low price Behringer Synth pedal but I am not sure if it is good quality.

Can you help me with advice?

I own both. They are very different, of course. IME, the Synth is really great at its price point, but the BEF is amazing.

That said, I think the BEF is worth saving for an may get you closer to the sounds you are looking for.

What do you think about the combination BEF with the Hot Hand sensor? On the advertise video here the Hot Hand looks very flexible, but does it work well in real life?
Is this Hot Hand worth its money in live performances?

The Behringer is actually very highly regarded around here.

Hi,

I've been using the BEF Pro and Hot Hand for a few weeks now. I believe that to get the best out of this combination for dubstep is to throw in some fuzz before the BEF Pro and play around in the back page menu (change from factory settings).

I've found the hot hand to be very responsive & natural to use. It really does give you full control. The BEF Pro is an amazing versatile pedal, easy to use with some outstanding sounds with editing and store 6 presents. From funky synth to dark dubstep in one stamp.

I havent tried the behringer, but as said above for the money you cant go wrong.

If you are just getting one pedal to get this sound I would go with the bsy600. But as a part of a modular set up with octave a d fuzz the bef will be much more versatile with more options.

Can I get the same flexibility an expression pedal instead of Hot hand?

You can't get as wobbly with an exp pedal. The nature of the input gives you a different effect. One's not really better than than the other, but what's better is both.

I'm a bit confused about the whole pedal inc Hot Hand thing, mainly cos I've just stumbled across it.

Do the pedals act as FX pedals on their own, regardless of the Hot Hand integration? Am I right in thinking that the Hot Hand is just an expression pedal device?

What are general thoughts of the FX pedals over say smaller stompboxes from EBS / TC etc etc? Wondered if the Hot Hand feature is the main pull to these or whether they stand up as top-line pedals in their own right...

The Hot Hand is an expression device that works on an X and Y plane (up, down, side to side) so it can do things that an expression pedal can't.
The BEF Pro is a GREAT pedal regardless of whether the HotHand is being used or not. It is the most versatile filter around, especially for the money. The filter can be controlled by an envelope, LFO, or HotHand. It has different wave shapes available, a couple of Phaser settings, etc.

The BSY600 and BEF are not the same kind of effect. One is a synth, the other is an envelope filter, with very different sonic results. Buy both.
