With that said, my sneaking suspicion is that one of the DRIVE effects is on and needs to be turned off:
- Press [<] + [>] buttons simultaneously to enter EDIT mode
- Press button (DRIVE) and then press [<] until -- is displayed
[*]Exit EDIT mode by pressing the [TUNER] (EXIT) button
After that, completely rule out that is not your instrument or cable causing the noise.

Will do. This happens with several basses, with all cables i have tried. Really hoping to be able to use this unit. I have the guitar version. Too. Dead quiet.

I am finding that certain presets have far more hiss associated with them than others. Try some varying presets and see if the level of noise changes with the different presets.
I got familliar with mine this last week, I got a midi interface and am running the free software. It is awsome. No longer do you need to carry a page with the presets on them, everything is on screen and VERY easy to navigate.
I was thinking about the footboard (too cheap to ignore) but am wondering if any of you ever tried to run BOTH the footboard and the software together or is this mutually exclusive? I really like the ease of the software and don't know if I would give that up for the footboard.
So far, during our jam on the weekend, I went mostly with the "House of Blues" preset. but am also liking the Mosound. I went throught all of them quickly and some of the cleaner presets sound great also.
I may have to change my screen name to "Behringer Fanboy" I started with a 502 mixer, then got the 3102EQ and the Composer, then I got a x2442usb mixer and the aue202 thingy for recording. I am starting to think of trying an amp next.....
For me, none of this stuff has failed me or performs less than expected. I am having a blast playing with newe gear and my bills still all get paid so I would have to say it is a no-brainer to go the Behringer route. I have to honestly say I don't understand the point of view of the brand bashers.
Oh, and Charlie, I think I'm ready for my number now....

Levels + Noise
Like most audio equipment, you will want to set V-AMP levels so that they make the most of the device's signal-to-noise ratio.
You will find that each AMP model has different levels of headroom and what could be considered operating hiss. Use of COMPRESSOR, DRIVE, EFFECTS, etc. could also add more noise to the signal. Unless your V-AMP is failing, even the worst amounts of resulting operating noise in the signal should be negligible for most applications.
To minimize noise and output the best possible signal from your V-AMP:

- Use quality connector cables
- Ride your preamp VOLUME knob to just under the CLIP light as the final step prior to saving your patch
- Try to achieve at least 12-noon on your MASTER by compensating with your amplifer's input attenuator(s)
today my v-amp pro finally arrived, i have had only a half hour to play through it on my headphones, so far it sounds very exciting!
and my wife likes the look...........

The output on my bass I assume is rather low, since I have the volume knob maxed out (as well as master gain) and it's still not clipping with the channel gain knob at 2 o' clock.

I have mine set to 100% on the internal gain setting (as Charlie Suggested) and keep the master at about 75% and I do not get clipping either, however, some of the presets with higher gain values do break up and distort a bit in the speakers, others are not a problem at all.
Disclaimer: I have a Bose L1 system at home at the moment so it may be part of the issue. I'm not ready to point at the V-amp until after I try it on another PA.

Mine definitely has a problem. Gain is maxed , drive and compressor off
It is usable only with the gate on six or higher. Not the bass. Not the cables. I will try one more time.

That's what I have said all along. Really wanting this unit to work for my needs . Going to see about an exchange.

I may have said this before - my first unit was a dud, and I had to jump through several hoops to get it replaced under warranty. Since then, no issues at all. It IS a great piece of kit when working properly, no doubt. I don't think I' ever found anything that does so much for so little cash.
Anyway, anybody liking the AMBIENCE effect? I find it's amazing with fretless, a little touch really helps to dial in that Percy Jones schtick.

On the down side, the Ultrabass octaver function sucks, imo - tracking is really crap compared to my Digitech BSW.
IMHO the SYNTH effect more than redeems the V-AMP in the tracking department and I think that effect alone rivals many third-party pedals in the category

still getting to know the new kit but so far i reall like the amazing variety of sounds it generates.
yesterday i connected the unit to a PA for the first time but the output signal from the 2 balanced line outs is super high, even with the gains turned to 0 on the soundboard the clip lights went on.
when changed to the unbalanced line outs the signal strength was normal but the sound was very different.
can this be adjusted somehow? thanks for any advise.

I believe the levels of the XLR outputs are fixed.
Ideally, you will want to use the XLR outputs for your PA or FOH sound over the unbalanced outs.
Most mixers and PA's will have a trim pot, pad button or other adjustment functionality to get input levels in line with what your mixer device can best operate with.
