So I have this old Washburn (B-2) that I bought when I was 16 (it was new). All in all it wasn't a terrible bass just not a good Bass. You know Washburn rebranded EMG Select pups some cheap ass bridge, plastic nut, plywood body. A great experimenting bass though.
I want to try to make it "Good". In their efforts to make it usable in designing it Washburn made it a string thru body design which helps with tone some. A good idea I think. It does require extra long strings even though it is only 22 frets. I think I will keep that but I want to replace the bridge. Oh it's a 4 string incidentally. I am working on pricing out a new body for it but I'm not in a hurry for that part of the process. By the way I love the way it feels. Never found another axe anything like it in fact. What do we think about the Hipshot "Trans Tone" bridge? I'm really torn on pickups. The bass's biggest problem is that it falls off in the bottom end. The first thought is active but in it's current configuration it has a naturnally scooped mid. It's P style pups. Basslines 1/4 pounder, EMG PX, DiMarzio DP127 (what do we think of these?) Am I to understand that many pups could run passive or active? Without changing the body do we think that will make a significant enough difference to be appreciated? I saw a discussion where they indicated that with active pups the body becomes largely ineffectual. Really??? Thoughts?
