Being single again

Thanks guys the reconnecting has helped even just getting back on TB I've seen some good stuff I've missed. Thanka for your advice espeicaly Eric I feel like I failed at this becauae of the end result and I think that's my biggest hang up right now.

Thats totally a natural feeling when going through a divorce, I would think. I felt the same way going through mine, especially because of my views on marriage. However, I came to realize that a marriage requires work from both parties, and can't sustain under the efforts of only one person, no matter how hard that person tries.

For two years you werent being you? Dude, lame. Anyone that makes you change who you are is bad news.

I'm not saying a girl who makes you stop going out on wild turkey binges every weekend is a succubus, but if you are totally pulled away from your regular activities and friends so much that you have to go "reconnect" with them, that is not a healthy relationship. congrats on being out.

Ive been through it as well. Its surprising what a person will endure when they think that love is all they need. After almost 2 years with m ex I found I wasnt truly living the way I would be, not talking to people I would be, and that I didnt like the person I was becoming. Thats when I knew it had to end.

Maybe you should ask yourself if you really lost you at all? Moving out of a serious relationship is bound to cause a shakeup in your lifestyle and emotional state. We're supposed to be different in a relationship as it has it's own challenges that we have to rise to. I'm not saying you become a different person intentionally to please someone else as that isn't happy, but you should expect some changes. At the same time, hopefully you haven't totally disregarded your own personal interests and hobbies over the last couple of years so that you have something you can still cling to and find some joy until you get over the emotional damage.

Also, like others have said, don't let your current state cause any deep scarring and bitterness. Being in a relationship will always mean you have to be vulnerable. If you aren't willing to do that again in the future then you won't have learned anything. Learning to protect yourself isn't really the goal here, but rather learning how to make sure future relationships are better protected while not giving up who you are, and also by learning how to better pick who you allow yourself to enter into such relationships with. Still, there are never any guarantees since all people have free will.

Hope things work out for you. In the meantime, stay busy with things and people you enjoy.
