BEM Box - Not the one...

BemBox.jpg

I needed an envelope filter. That's really it. Just an envelope filter. I don't use effects, but my repertoire is expanding and I needed an envelope filter.

I saw the BEM Box at a good price, and even better price on eBay. Multi-effects. Lots of presets. Completely programmable. I good option methinks.

This box is a total tone-killer! I play most of the night in bypass. But I set up a distortion, an octaver, a chorus, and filter. It was a low-exposure gig, so why not try some stuff, eh? I thought these four effects could be used (not together) to beef up a few things or make it a bit more interesting as we're playing as a three piece now. In by-pass mode I have the great meaty sound I love from my axe/amp/cab combination. When I hit the BEM Box, it's all gone. Mids disappear and highs roll off. The lows are there, but ultra-muddy.

I've considered toying with the effect's on-board EQ to see if I can set up a clean to use instead of bypass that gives me what I want, and try to do the same for effected channels. But I think it's time to toss it aside (after one gig) and just pick up a Bass Balls.

If you use an envelope filter that isn't a tone killer, let me know before I dish out more cash on a toss-aside.
