I've never seen Ben p[lay a bass like that. I'm guessing it's a loaner. He makes any bass sound beautiful IMO

I'm almost positive that's the bass that Jed Kriegel made for him, and I think that's the one in the Dan Weiss video as well. I've played that bass a few times, most recently in Jed's shop last Friday, and it's a really great instrument

I had read that he had a new bass and thought that perhaps I was mistaken. I haven't seen him for years actually, now that I think of it..

He is one BAAAAAD ASS bass player. That hasn't changed.

Anyone know his rational for stringing the D backwards (presumably "balls out")?

I've heard of doing that with the whole set to change the angle for the tailpiece (I believe Francois Rabbath used to do that?) but I've never heard of doing it with just one string.

Dennis Irwin taught me to do that with plain gut D strings - it increased the tension a bit and made them less floppy.

Some plain gut D strings can be a bit floppy/low tension. I am not sure why Ben would do this with a wrapped Oliv D though.
