Pete, I definitely have too many basses...and the list, at least for the moment, now includes two Fenders. I can relate, regardless of gig count.
San Carlos is smack dab in San Mateo county...on the "peninsula" or "west bay" section of the bay area. Countless cities have these festivals, and they make for fun gig opportunities. We were the 'opener' on the main stage - a really good Santana tribute band followed us.
By contrast, today's gig is pure work. Tuxedo on a hot day, set up in one area (outside) for a cocktail set, then relocate into the ballroom for the reception, and deal with the wedding planner who seems to be as psychotic and schizophrenic as they come. I feel bad for the band leader on this one, and I'm reminded how good it is to just be the bass player.
Enough whining, though - I'm on the date with some great players and we'll be playing a bunch of great tunes...including some traditional Jewish horas that tax my weaksauce reading chops.
