Bergantino Replacement Speaker?

so that is 2x250w speakers at 8ohms each right?

I don't know much about speakers, but I have an EBS Fafner and it is rated at 350W@4ohms... Can i get 2 8ohm 200W speakers? or does the crossover have something to do with that...

Spend the $115.... That tweeter, crossover and horn are designed specifically for that cabinet and those speakers. The woofers are relatively hi xmax designs (designed to go deeper than 'normal' speakers, but also roll off lower.

Spend the $115 and call it good. This keeps your Bergie as a Bergie, and not a mutt.

His cabs are engineered for his drivers. Use his drivers.

Since you blew a driver, that tells me you are driving hell out of your rig. If you like the Bergie, buy a second one to share the load. It doesn't take too many blown drivers to pay for buying a second cab.

There is only so much noise one can make with a 2x10, and you are apparently at that point. Time for a second cab.

Well at the time I was using an octave pedal, and I thought it might have been the low frequency when playing in the lower register of my bass... Do you think it was a driving issue rather than frequency spectrum issue?

Octave pedals can cause much havoc, especially with small cabs that are tuned to reproduce significant low end like the HT210s. You rarely hear of one of Jim's speakers failing, but if you crank enough deep low end at a high enough volume, any cab is going to suffer.

If a sub-octave tone is integral to your sound, I would recommend a larger cab with more ability to drive the low end into the audience, whether it be another Berg model like the HT322, or another manufacturers cab. The Fafner runs at 2ohms, so an additional 4ohm HT210s (if you can find one) would also 'solve your problem'.

I love the HT210s (I have the full 's' stack, and just purchased a 4ohm HT210s for stand alone use). However, when I use the HT210s 4ohm, it's for moderate volume (at most) jazz/pop type playing.

sub octaves are handled quite well by my 12" speakers at loud levels

The bergantino hq is right down the street from the EAW in whitinsville, ma (i grew up 5 miles away and never knew until a few days ago), so some friends and I were wondering are the bergantino drivers custom made or do they buy them from EAW?

I believe Jim gets his from Eminence. EAW never made their own drivers. For a time their parent company Mackie owned RCF, and their drivers came from them. Since the move to China it's a safe bet they source their drivers there now, possibly from the Eminence plant there that serves the Asian OEM market.

I think using an octaver is not such a good idea in the lower register. They don't track very well there and produce frequencies that even the best speakers can't reproduce. I use mine way up the neck so that the lowest note is still within the range of my speakers.
