Berry Oakley's rig?

Supposedly he loved the sound of his Guild Starfire and took the pickup out of it (or bought one, forget) and put it in the Jazz, the guy who wrote this (was a roadie I believe) said they gave him a lot of krap for doing that but you can't argue with the results. I think it sounds great, perfect for his pick style. I still don't think anyone makes pickups like that except for the Dark Star and those aren't being made anymore.

Curtis Novak currently makes supposedly very similar pickups, but I have yet to hear one in the flesh. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I just started listening to the Allman Bros. (despite my bass that is a modern version of The Tractor). I take it Berry was using an SVT an 8x10? He's got a pretty unique tone.
I thought he used Marshall's but here are 2 pics of stage view. Maybe someone can I.D. amps.

I am a blues oriented bass player and Berry Oakley and the ABB were/are at the top of my listening/learning list and enjoyment. But Jaco rocked soulfully on Fannie Mae IMHO, while singin pretty good too!
Thanks for saying that. Loving one style or player doesn’t have to mean talking down another. It amazes me that someone could listen to Jaco’s groove on the Chicken (another example of many) and claim that he doesn’t support a song, only plays solos - or in this case - has no soul?

I saw them twice around '70-'71, both shows with Duane. All the guys with electric instruments had one Marshall stack each. I've seen pics where Berry gravitated towards Sunn, like a lot of bass players did. Marshalls had the look, but didn't sound so great for bass.

one more pic for nowView attachment 629483
I've got some more somewhere but the 2 cabs I have are the two on the right side, with the speakers changed, the JBL's were gone by the time I found them. I've got other pics with the fender 400ps on stage with 3 of these cabinets.
They look like Sunn 2000S cabs with no grilles and those came loaded with D-140's.

The heads sounded good for bass though, I had a Marshall Major head years ago (200 watt tube head) and ran it through two Sunn 2000S cabs, used to shake buildings, (slight exaggeration)

I just joined this site and had to jump in on this thread. I was cruising around North Long Beach today (Jan 1st) and was looking into the 2nd hand stores. Being New Year's Day, they were all closed of course. I peered through the window of a pawn shop I have never peered through the window of before, and look what I found. It's a little hard to make out because of the security bars shadow on the cabinet, but here is the pic I took. What cabinets were made in St Louis, Mo?
