best 2nd cabinet for Markbass CMD 210 combo

I recently purchased the Markbass CMD 210 combo. It has 2 10s and a Tweeter, in a front ported cabinet. Great sound.
What would be a better cabinet to add to it for a medium sized gig? 2 10s thus giving me a 4 10 set up, or add a single 12 or a twin 12 cabinet, or a single 15.

The basses that I play are a 3001 Rickenbacher 4 string single pickup and an Ibanez GSR 250 5 string. (I may replace the pickups to Norstrom big singles)
The Amp is 300W @ 8 OHM and 500W at 4 OHM
The standard cabinet is 8 OHM. The connector will be a speakon
I like a smooth mellow sound with punch.

As always your seasoned ear and input is valued.

You know the advice you will get here - matching cabinet. I would contact Markbass and see what they suggest to pair with it.

They suggest any of the cabinets I listed... so I am hoping for some input from past experience in using a 2010 for a regular starting cabinet

A matching cabinet such as the traveler 102p would probably be best. All of the cabinets you listed would sound fine, but having a matching 210 cab would look more symmetrical and the power from the amp would be more evenly distributed to each of the speakers. The traveler 102p is rear-ported, so make sure you keep it atleast a foot or two away from walls so you dont affect the tuning of the cab (which might give you some phase issues when used with your combo), but other than that I think having that 2x 210 setup would be a solid rig

Edit: you could also get the Standard 102HF which is the front ported version, that would probably be the best match

Hi All,

The rear port comment got me thinking and I wasn't sure if the CMD 102P was rear ported or not so I checked mine - it is not.

There are 2 rectangle holes in the back on either side of the amp but feeling around with my hand I have confirmed that they do not go anywhere and are indeed sealed from the speaker chamber.

I love the CMD 102P and I do run it with an extension speaker cab (Traynor 2x10 NEO) 10% to 20% of the the time, especially for larger outdoor gigs. I personally feel that this 2x 210 500watt set up can compete with the loudest of drummers and if things need to be louder than PA gets involved (if they're micing the drums then they can take the DI off of the amp.

get any of the mb 2x10 cabinets, which one depends on if weight is an issue. the 102 traveler is the lightest but will give less bottom end than the larger ones.

I had a MB 1/15 with a 2/10 and I loved the sound. 4/10 is very cool. I just believe the 1/15 adds a certain sound you won't get from 10's.

Get the Markbass 102p as the add on cab. Lightweight and sounds great in a vertical stack. I agree, don't mix cabs. Stay with 10's. I also own the 104hf. Nice sounding cab but has dispersion issues. The vertical stack solved that issue.

Standard 102HF. It's the exact cabinet as your amp. I use it. Stack it vertically.

Be prepared for people to complain that you're too loud.

I've used the CMD 102P on top of a MB Std. 151HR (in pic)... the MB 15's are actually quite 'punchy' + add some nice fullness! The 2x10 & 1-15 is a common configuration. I just picked up (another) Std. 151HR - from GC used- for a great price!

The CMD 210 on the floor maybe horizontal and a 210P traveler vertical may answer the call... I will get the height of 3 speakers and since the CMD 102P is 19" tall the four inches from being on their side may not be an issue... it is 23 " vs almost 19"
The sound should be awesome with the combo bouncing the bass sound off the floor and the 102P cabinet punching our closer to ear level
I am pleased with the sound of the CMD 102P but the added of the 102P may provide a larger sound with a larger venue
We do have several PA systems to do the heavy lifting
