Best 2x10 Standalone cab? Neo or no Neo?

Man that's funny, because when I went there and tried to talk to you guys about this, none of you seemed friendly AT ALL, I could tell that you didnt want to talk to me. One of the guys there, a tall white gentleman with blonde hair chimed in and said that neodynium "is all crap that's made in china anyway." YOu have a bunch of nice dream basses there, but after your enthusiastic and hospitable treatment, I just wanted to get the @$#% out of there and I did... :(

Off topic for a sec. I felt the same way at SamAsh on Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn NY. I was clearly patiently waiting and the guy just kept ignoring me and bypassed me for several customers. I was so pissed I stated I am going to GC and will never patronize that store again! All we ask for is common courtesy!

They do, after all, work in a music store!

I just got an Ampeg PN-210HLF a little while ago and they sound great. Neo speakers.

I prefer my 810E a little more (the mids seemed to be shifted lower) but it is a very small deference when you consider the size and weight.

I mic it with a RE20 though and use in ears, so I'm not hearing the cab + room as much. But my guitarist asked me to turn down the 210 :eek:

Who cares what some guys think - what do YOU think?

You have to hear & compare.

I prefer non-neo, but I really think it depends on the builder; I use non neo 2x10s (epifani) but my buddy has two neo berg 2x10s that kill...

So get a cheap cab and it will sound cheap. Get a good cab and till sound good, neo or not. That's what I think.

+1 One to these two.

The Markbass just rocks and is super loud and deep for a 2x10. And at under 30lbs, forget about it!

To my mind the Acme B2 is the best I've ever used. That said I'd not try to gig with just one. A vertical stack of two is ideal for everything I do. I have a pair of series I and a pair of series II. I take the older cabinets always because I like them a little better.

I'm really digging my Acme Low B2 (Series II; 4ohm), I use it alone paired with a Streamliner 600 and it really whomps. I know the Acmes are supposed to be inefficient but it works great in my 5 piece rock band. I cut the lows a bit and boost the low mids and still have plenty of low end.
