Best 5 String Bass $500-$800

i sometimes wish i were in that price range... i'd get the ibanez btb series. please make sure you get 15% off whatever the listed price is (musician's friend or otherwise... they usually accomodate just for asking).

What's the best 5 string bass on the market between 500 and 800 bucks? Not too keen on a used bass. Hopefully there is a quality bass in this price range.
Thanks

"Best" for what? Firewood? Old school? Modern? Most points sticking out of it? Best quality construction for dollar? Best bass for metal? :)

I have a MIM Fender Jazz 5 and I agree with everything pacojas says except mine had nasty pickups. So new SCN pickups added abou $100 to price. Now it kills (for a Fender jazz). Be SURE to play it BEFORE you buy it!

Another winner is a G&L Tribute L2500. This is one of my favorite basses. Though I do recommend finding a used USA rather than the Tribute, still a decent used USA in the price range is often not available.

More winners are various Yamahas (don't own any but but REALLY came close to buying some Yamaha basses I did NOT need! Another are some Peaveys. Also CArvin B series is in the price range, though I'd fork a little more for the killer SB basses.

For more modern Ibanez are the standard. If you want "pointy" I'd suggest a Dean Dimebag. And if you want firewood, how about 3 or 4 SX Jazz clones. (Quality hardwood to cook your dogs)

OK?
