Best all round rig .

My suggestion for best all around rig on a budget:
Used GK 400RB...the original model is the one to get, about $200
Any used 1-15 cab that's small enough for you...Bag End cabs go really cheap these days, you can find them for $200.

It's a custom speaker built out of a drum shell. I'm not even sure it's a proper bass cab or who built it, but it came to mind when I read "all round" rather than "all around".
I like the way you think Nev. 
No he just plays an acoustic kit but at normal rehearsals in the Bl home , he uses a digital kit through , yes you guessed through the PA
Rehearsal tonight was actually very good and were all tight on timing and such . He wasnt bad at all tonight but as he left he hit us with "I cant do next week" again ! Turns out the other drummer cant make it on Sunday so hes out as far as the rest are concerned and were stuck with our current . I put some of the suggestions to them about going through the amp into the PA and getting a limiter to give extra protection but also said that if I put a speaker out them Id pay for repair . In time once Im back at work then Ill get a better rig , either a more powerful and lighter combo with a speaker connection out on it or a decent head from 350-500 and couple of cabs . Thanks for all your help .
Another solution: Grab a high-pass filter and cut everything under 80 Hz. Maybe add a compressor? PA saved. Groove tightened. Drummer and guitarists amazed at your technical know-how.
What is the PA? (Just curious, there's 1200 watts and then there's 1200 watts....)

Check TBr fDecks adjustable high pass filter. Not only will it protect the PA, it will help your amp out as well.
