best average bass?

say you were touring and you were offered a free bass? but the catch was it couldnt cost over 1000$, what would you pick?

i personaly would go for an ampeg transparent bass

By that standard, I guess all basses over $1,500 are excellent.

Depends on your style and on what you have already, but good workhorse would be Musicman Stingray, Fender P or Fender J.
