Best bang for a buck mixer

I'm looking into a live mixer for my band too. I'm in no rush to buy anything, but I need to research this.

5 piece band with back vocals. I think the 10 mono channels plus 2-3 stereo channels format would be fine. I've been looking at

Mackie ProFX16 $500
Mackie ProFX22 $650

Peavey PV 14 $300 (only 1 Aux send)
Peavey PV 20-USB $550

Soundcraft EFX12 $500

Allen & Heath ZED16FX $700

Yamaha MG166CX $429

They all seem to have something to offer in terms of features / quality / price. Any opinions here? Do the people who've posted here some months back still like their mixers?

anyone of those 3...they are great brands...my personal taste lends itself to Allen & Heath.

i wouldn't touch peavey or mackie at that price point. Soundcraft is another great console...amazing brand/sound...

At first I was looking at the Mackie Onyxi mixers with firewire, as I wanted a multi-track sound input for DAW, but then reconsidered as it would be a clumsy live mixer. So the new idea is a good live mixer, then get a firewire multi-input line box and hook them up for those times when I want to record the band at once. Then I realized that the live mixer would need Direct Outs for each channel, which none of these have. Oh well, Inserts on each channel will do right if I use a TRS-TS cable or do the "half-insert" with a TS-TS cable?

[edit] Soundcraft seems to be one of the few companies that does not do the "channel inflation" in their promo material, counting one stereo channel as two channels.

Mackie 1604VLZ Pro....the pre-amps are great. Its a tough board with 16 XLR/Line inputs. No stereo return channels. $250 off CL. 6 Aux/Sends with 3/4 and 5/6 switchable on a per channel basis. Post fade on 1/2 switchable on 3/4 or 5/6. No onboard effects those mostly suck for producing warm vocal reverb. I use a TC Electronics M350. Works very well in our four piece.
