Best Bang For The Buck: Combos?

depends what u mean by inexpensive. my carvin br515n costs around 600ish, but with 500 watts, 15inch with tweet, and weighing only 40lbs, i dont know of anything better than that.
if cheaper, i hear Acoustic has some great bang for buck combos

Ashdown do really nice combos. The MAG series (300w, 1 x 15" or 2 x 10") are nice and punchy. Also have D.I. out, tuner out, FX loop and can drive an extension cab if you add one later. I've got the older 250w model and it pushes alot more air than you'd expect at that power. Not too big or heavy either.
Another thing I think is important in a combo is that it performs well at low volumes too (home practice, recording in limited space and wanting to prevent bleed into guitar or drum mics or playing on a small stage where an sound guy will normally ask you to turn down) and the Ashdowns do, IMHO.

Does it really wight only 40lbs? I was going to go for one of these, but read on these forums that it really weighs about 52 lbs.
Have you ever weighed your?

The PDF on Carvin's website states these are 52 LBS. The online specs say 40lbs, Called Carvin this weekend and they say 40lbs (guy just look it on the computer
), and emailed them about the ones they;ve been selling on ebay and they say 52lbs).Is this a new version verses an old version, or just confusion?
I would pop for one of these if the new ones were really 40lbs, but not at 52
I have an Ashdown MAG 300 with the 2 x 10" + tweeter and cannot speak highly enough if it - compact, powerful and punchy!!.
I just sold my Acoustic B200 amp, which I loved, because it weighed 75 pounds.

I played the GK MB212 @ NAMM yesterday & it was so darned good that I would put it as a best buy at any price~
+1 on the Old Peaveys but if you need that classic sound and not just power I like Ampeg:

I have a Fender Bassman 250/210 combo that has worked out well for me over the years. Lots of control options (semi-parametric low/hi-mids, DI with pre/post, on-board compressor, etc.), and it's pretty compact and lightweight. At about $600 (not sure, I bought it a few years ago) I am very content with it.
Here's how "bang for the buck" works. YOU, the buyer, sets the price limit. Then, you go out and play every amp you find, and decide with your ears, which sounds best, to you. Win.

A SWR Readhead is inexpensive compared to a Ampeg Heritage Series HSVT-CL & Ampeg Heritage Series HSVT-810E
+1 Yorkville/Traynor. Traynor makes a tilt-back monitor style combo that's 100w, DI out, with a 15" sub that's pretty decent. I bought one and A/B'ed it against my Mesa Walkabout Scout 12" and was pretty impressed. Ended up sticking with the Mesa and returning the Traynor, but only because I didn't want 2 amps. If I didn't already own the Mesa, I'd would've kept the Traynor in a heartbeat. Cost about 1/4 of the Mesa too.
