And I still say, from playing on the country scene here in Nashville...if you can play and sound good, no one really cares what it is, so you may as well play YOUR favorite bass on those gigs instead of second guessing what someone else would like.

I'm even reminded of a local dude that plays a 7 string...I think it's a Conklin...? He's an incredible player with great tone, and no one cares what the bass is one way or the other...he is also the only electric player I've ever heard who can get close to the upright 'slap' style and not sound like a dork doing it...I sound like a dork when I try

Roy Vogt is local there and plays a 7 sometimes if I remember, and definitely a strong player.

What you said is the truth, the Bass does NOT matter, The PLAYER is the key to being successful at any playing any genre.

I would go with the Peavey myself.

Really depends on how you define "country." In the old school way it would be an old P bass with flats or a six string Danelectro Longhorn. Today, jst about anything. I think one of the best choices today would be the J. Backlund Design JBD-800B. Lots of versatility and has a great " new country" look.

My vote is for the 5string J bass. You can get all the tones you need out of that. Old school or otherwise. Just my 2 cents.

I would go with the Peavey myself.

+1,000 That would fun as heck. If a 4 string can cover the song list. And don't rule out a Drop D-tuner especially if it's just a few songs. If I had that Cirrus, I wouldn't even fool with the other basses.

I haven't yet...It has Deep Talkin' Bass flats on it now, which aint bad...ordered a set of Circle K's yesterday to see how those will do...I LOVE black tape strings and have a few sets at the studio...never was able to use 'em live. My main electric gig is with an artist who never follows the setlist and never tells you what he's about to play next, so I kinda need one bass that'll more or less cover everything I want to do. I will say on the plus side, the Lakland is super comfy to play...love the neck. I like the passive Barts EXCEPT the middle position is just way too phasey sounding to me and I can't seem to get rid of it, so for now it's one pickup or the other, what doesn't suck
