Punk Jazz-Jaco
The Real Me-John Entwistle
Basses Loaded-Brian Bromberg
155 posts and 3 years for someone to finally chime in with The Real Me, UNBELIEVABLE on a bass board!
Okay, read through all those early pages to see when it finally popped up, and also only saw Whipping Post once. :scowl:
Anyway, enough with criticizing the choices of others and to add a few I haven't seen mentioned:
Down With Disease-Phish
Phish: Down With Disease / Free [HD] 2011-05-28 - Bethel, NY - YouTube
The Other One-The Grateful Dead (particularly 1972 versions with Phil's thundering intro lick, such as
Invalid Link Removed can be heard at the 9 second mark here, following a nice little intro by Phil.)
Boogie On Reggae Woman (even though originally it was synth, it's pretty sick as done by Mike Gordon:
PHISH - BOOGIE ON REGGAE WOMAN - 07/01/10 - WALNUT CREEK RALEIGH, NC - YouTube)
Also, My Generation and Who Are You have some pretty phenomenal opening bass parts. My Generation is rightly most known for its breakthrough solo section, but the bass playing throughout is pretty revolutionary.
In the first 9 or so pages I read I didn't see any of these except those singular mentions of Real Me and Whipping Post.
