Best Bass Intro!

Someone else already put this in, but I'm repeating it:
'Would' from Alice in Chains...they could have even stopped the song after those first ten seconds or so, because it is that good! One of the reasons I started playing bass.

Another one is Falling to Pieces by Faith No More, I still don't know how he made those sounds on his bass...

punk411, great job resurrecting this thread for the second time in it's long life!

Extreme: "Tragic Comic"
Jane Kelley Williams: "Show Me How To Catch A Fish" (fantastic groovin' upright!)
JJ Burnel: All of the above mentioned (Especially "Do You Wanna" which is one of my faves) plus "Straighten Out"
Talking Heads: "Psycho Killer"
Charlie Mingus: "II B.S."
Midnight Oil: "Breathe"
The Beatles: "Come Together" (not sure that counts)
King's X: "Static" (incredible, brutally honest song also)
Joe Jackson: "Mad At You"
Joe Jackson: "Got The Time" (Graham Maby is my hero)
Doobie Brothers: "Long Train Runnin'" (It's short I know, and not solo bass, but it sure is cool!)
DEVO: "Mongoloid"
Cake: "The Distance"
77s: "Honesty"

  • Robert Randolph and the Family Band - I Need More Love
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers - Higher Ground
  • Porcupine Tree - Hatesong
  • Primus - Jerry Was a Racecar Driver, Is it Luck

I love a good bass intro. :bassist:

Edit: (above) Yeah, Muse! Awesome band, and I'm in Jersey, so yeah, they've gotten overseas. ;o)

Would? came out at that perfect period of time when things were changing in the music scene, and what was going on in my life. I still have great reverence for that song :D .

Definitely one of my fave songs ever. The bassline sets the mood for the song perfectly, particularly through its simplicity. Another fine demonstration of how you don't need to be flashy to be moving as a musician.
