Best cab for my ampeg v4bh

Im curious what cab is best suited for my recently purchased v4bh. I want to stick with an ampeg. Currently i have a bxt410hl4. One of the victor wooten designed cabs. It handles up to 1200 watts. I was wondering if im better off using a cab that handles LESS power or just stick with what i have. (Granted i hate the weight of the cab) There is a Bse410h locally and also a 410he that i could snag up for cheap. Would I be better off with one of these, or stick with what I got? I mainly play rock and love high mids (old green day/punk tone) opinions????

I use two Ampeg 210AVs with my V4B. Sonic bliss. Plenty about this combination in the forum. I also have a 410 hlf but tonally I prefer the 210AVs.

I use the 210av's with my new V4B as well, but really, your BXT cab will be fine with it. You don't need to worry in the least about matching power handling with the V4BH, and if you like to crank tube amps to get power tube distortion, you'll be able to do so without fear of blowing your speakers. Just turn off the tweeter first, because distorted tones can blow tweeters. However, I could be tempted to pick up a 410he on the cheap as long as it wasn't made between 2000 and 2006.

Interesting. I actually saw a pair of the 210av's locally on cl for $300 but didn't really give it much thought. And thanks for the tweeter advice. I actually practiced for a little bit with the amp and noticed when I played aggressively it was farting out. But then I rolled off my tweeter at the last practiced and loved the amp. So if u say my speakers won't be damaged from being underpowered then ill trust your word and keep what I got. (Unless I snag up this b115t locally for $175 just for smaller gigs)

There is no such thing as causing damage from underpowering. If it gets damaged, it's because it's OVERpowering the speaker. That myth got started by people blowing cabs rated to take more wattage (probably a lie ;) ) using lower power heads and not realizing that a head can have twice as much power for peaks as its RMS wattage. So they crank it super hard and they blow their cabs. In your case, it's not enough wattage to worry about. A V4B is rated to do 200w on peaks, and a really super tweaked V4B might do 250w in peaks, and the BXT410 will take 600w without farting. So there's no way you could blow anything with the V4BH except the tweeter, which is rated for far less power handling, because distortion increases high harmonics by a great deal, and that could overpower the tweet.

What's the issue with Ampeg stuff circa 2000-2006? I thought most of the issues started occurring after LOUD Technologies bought SLM in 2005

2006, but who's counting? ;) Sure, there were some issues in the first couple years of LOUD ownership and the Vietnamese factory they used, but that was 6 years and a CEO ago. The 2000-2006 cabs used darker sounding speakers due to a cone supplier change at Eminence, and they were made of OSB till right before SLM sold to LOUD in 2006.

Oh, gotcha. Good to know. Thanks for the info.
